For this reason he had to be made like them,[a] fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. The bible book of HEBREWS is one of my favorite books of the Bible because it is the book that I look to when I need JESUS Today. The Gospels present Jesus Christ as he was when he was alive on the earth. The book of Revelation presents Jesus Christ, in our present day, as we expect him to be in our near future, meaning that when we read Revelation, we read it with expectation of that which is to come. But Hebrews gives us Jesus as He is now – TODAY.
Today, Jesus is our LORD. He is the KING of Kings and LORD of Lords. At HIS name, every knee shall bend of those in heaven and those on earth and of those under the ground, and every tongue should openly acknowledge that JESUS CHRIST is LORD. (Philippians 2:10, 11) He sustains all things by his powerful word. (Hebrews 1:3)
Today, Jesus is our Savior. He sacrificed His life, shedding His perfect blood for us to pay the price - the debt of sin that we inherited. He paid it in full so that we could receive the judgment of “NOT GUILTY!” He received 39 lashes on his back covering every classification that sin could be grouped into, so that every sin, every weakness that we inherited from the first man, ADAM, was covered. He was pierced in his side, hands and feet, connecting us all, male and female, and freeing our destiny and prosperity. He was cut in his private area (circumcision) and had a crown of thorns pressed on his head and in his temples, releasing us even in areas that we hold to be private, which we keep hidden from others, but weigh as a burden in our heart. He wept tears of blood feeling the strain, the pressure of anxiety and became the perfect model that we were to “follow closely” as he released us from the bondage of stress. (1 Peter 2:21)
NOW, here in Hebrews chapter 2, we see Jesus again – TODAY – this time as our High Priest. He went through everything that He did, on earth, verse 17 tells us, so that He could effectively intercede for us because He knows how we feel due to having been made like us, “fully human in every way”.
To understand what this means for us today, let’s take a look at what the Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 8:26, 27.

26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
You see, TODAY, when we go through whatever intense trial we face, when we find ourselves overwhelmed, stressed, crying out for help, needing to pray, but not knowing how to begin to pray; when we find that all we can seem to cry out is JESUS HELP!, we are told in Romans, “…the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit…” Jesus knows. Jesus understands. Jesus intercedes for us, Hebrews 2:17 says, making atonement as our High Priest for our sins; and, as Romans 8:26 say, “Helping us with our weaknesses”.
This is powerful because this is JESUS TODAY for us who would receive of HIS covering over us. It’s a FREE GIFT given to us when we CHOOSE JESUS as our Lord and Savior. The bonus that we get TODAY, as the Bible book of Hebrews shows us, is that JESUS as our High Priest (our Public Defender and Private Lawyer in the heavenly courtroom) intercedes for us, declaring that we are NOT GUILTY, and that whatever the sin is, it was paid in full, and then our High Priest presents the evidence – HIS SHED BLOOD! Glory be to GOD! “It is finished.” (John 19:30)
Whatever you are going through, receive Jesus TODAY. If you haven’t already done so, read the Gospels and see all that Jesus did when he was on earth. You have probably heard Christians speaking of their expectation of Jesus return. Read Revelation if you would like to know what to expect. But if you need JESUS NOW, RIGHT NOW, TODAY, then read the Bible book of Hebrews and see all that Jesus did (yesterday), is doing (TODAY), and will soon do (tomorrow) for us all.

Dear LORD JESUS, come into my life now, and come into my heart now. I believe in my heart, therefore I confess with my mouth, that Jesus Christ is right now my personal LORD and Savior and I am right now born again. Amen, Hallelujah!”
